MP WANTS MORE LOLLIPOP TIME FOR CHAILEY SCHOOL

Local MP Norman Baker has written to the County Council to ask them to consider providing more "lollipop time" at St Peter's primary school on the busy A275 in Chailey. The issue was raised by a number of Chailey residents at Mr Baker's mobile summer surgery last week, which called in at the village.

Norman Baker says: "I am told that there are a number of occasions when children stay late for after-school activities, as happens in many schools. Unfortunately, when they leave, there is no lollipop person to help them across the very busy and speedy road. Also, the school warning lights may well have been switched off, so drivers are simply not expecting to find children crossing the road.

"I am therefore asking the County Council, with the school, to look at providing more lollipop support on those occasions where large numbers of children are involved, and also for the school flashing lights to be left on at such times."
