MP Backs 30mph Limit for Laughton

Local MP Norman Baker has thrown his weight behind local people campaigning for a 30 mph limit through the centre of Laughton village, on the B2192. He is also calling for flashing school signs to be provided.

The issue was raised by a number of Laughton residents, including Parish Council representatives, at Mr Baker's mobile summer surgery last week, which called in at the village.

Norman Baker says: "Laughton is divided by this busy road, and many people are fearful of crossing it, given the speed and volume of traffic. This is particularly the case for children crossing to get to school, and elderly people crossing to get to the village shop.

"I am therefore supporting calls for the middle section of the present 40mph limit to be made 30, so providing drivers with a clear stepped approach: 60-40-30-40-60. Flashing lights at school time would also help to improve safety. I have written to the County Council accordingly. "

The village's county councillor Roy Martin has submitted a petition to the council calling for a reduction as well.
