2003 (and previous) press releases
Seaford MP Norman Baker's calls for more health services to be made available in the town have been answered positively.
In a letter to the MP, the Chief Executive of the Eastbourne Downs Primary Care Trust, Gina Brocklehurst, revealed plans to make available "within the next few months" in the town diabetes and dermatology clinics. The PCT hopes to follow this "within the next year" with minor surgery, anticoagulation services and intermediate care services. Most excitingly, the PCT is considering building a new facility to replace the cramped and time expired Seaford Day Hospital.
Norman Baker says: "This is an exciting development and good news for my constituents. I have long argued that Seaford people are entitled to better NHS facilities in the town. It is after all the largest town in my constituency, and houses many elderly and infirm people who do not want the trouble of having to trail to the DGH in Eastbourne for even minor treatment.
"I have made my view very clear to senior management within the NHS over some years, and am delighted that at last some significant steps are being taken in the right direction, and thank the PCT for that. Clearly it is unrealistic to expect a hospital to be built with the same range of services as in Brighton or Eastbourne, but there is no reason at all why the same sorts of services you can find at the Victoria Hospital in Lewes should not be available in Lewes."
