MP Highlights Need for improved Bus Services to DGH

Seaford's MP Norman Baker has called for a direct bus link to be re-established between the town and the District General Hospital in Eastbourne, the main hospital serving Seaford.

The MP formally raised the matter in a meeting with the Eastbourne Downs Primary care Trust in Seaford yesterday (Tuesday). He pointed out that for many elderly people, or mums with children, the present journey is quite difficult, involving as it does changing buses in Eastbourne town centre. He has asked the PCT to help find a way to restore a direct connection, even if it just runs a couple of times a day.

Norman says: "We have a situation where no commercial operator wants to run a through service, and the County Council is not prepared to put on a subsidised one. While I understand why those positions have been taken, the net result is that thousands of my constituents in Seaford are denied a direct bus service of any sort to their local hospital. That cannot be right.

"I am therefore writing to the County Council to ask them to reconsider their position, and also to Brighton and Hove Buses to ask them to look at extending a couple of their existing Brighton-Eastbourne 712 services through to the hospital. I am also hoping that the PCT will likewise apply some pressure."
