Sure Start is a Sure Thing for Newhaven!
Newhaven's MP, Norman Baker, has welcomed 'Sure Start Lewes, The Havens' a national initiative that brings together early education, childcare, health and family support to give children the best possible start in life.
Mr Baker, who supported National Sure Start month in June, has welcomed the government's decision to fund a programme in The Havens, an area including Newhaven Meeching, Valley and Denton wards. A successful campaign, spearheaded by Pam Perry, Chair of the Newhaven Community Development Association (NCDA,) means that the programme has been awarded a grant of £1,768,000 that will be used to help improve the health and well-being of over 800 local children and their families.
Speaking about the new programme, Norman said:
'I am very pleased that the proposals drawn up by the NCDA have been approved and that funding has now been obtained to put into practice the services the NCDA identified as necessary to improve the quality of life of local children and their families.'
