MP Condemns Loss of Malling Post Office

The proposed closure of Malling post office will be a bitter blow for local residents and add to the already lengthy queues at the town's main post office. That's the view of local MP Norman Baker, who is calling for the Post Office to reconsider its strategy for outlets in the town.

Norman says: "There will undoubtedly people for whom the closure of this office will be highly inconvenient, especially for the old and vulnerable. It seems that Post Office Counters do not mind who they inconvenience so long as they can cut costs.

"It is ludicrous to suggest the Landport office as an alternative. Who is going to walk from Malling to Landport? The reality is that this closure will lead to even longer queues at the already overworked main post office in the High Street. Some years ago now, Post Office Counters gave me absolute assurances that they were searching for alternative premises to replace those which closed in the Cliffe. Today we are no nearer to that. It seems that when it comes to closing offices, they are highly efficient. When it comes to opening them, something always seems to stop them."
