UK Ships Scrapped In India Shows Ghostship Threat is Multinational

Responding to Greenpeace reports that UK ships are being scrapped in India in defiance of international law, Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat's Shadow Environment Sectary, said:

"It is quite wrong for waste ships to be transported from one country to another.

"Good environmental policy should be that these 'ghost vessels' are dismantled as close as possible to their final destination.

"It is particularly worrying that British waste ships are being scrapped in developing countries where environmental standards are lower and the potential dangers to people more acute."
