2003 (and previous) press releases
A petition signed by over 300 local residents and backed by the local MP, Norman Baker, has been successful in demanding the installation of a speed camera on one of the constituency's most dangerous roads.
The current lack of speed limit enforcement between the A259 and the C7 past Lawes Avenue in Newhaven means that this stretch of road has become a blackspot with, what even East Sussex County Council have admitted is, a poor accident history.
East Sussex County Council has recently announced that if all goes according to plan a speed camera should be up and running by early next year.
Speaking about the decision Norman Baker said:
"I am delighted that East Sussex County Council has finally decided to respond positively to the concerns of local residents and install a camera on this dangerous stretch of road.
"I am still concerned, however, that the installation of speed cameras is all too often a long overdue response to tragic accidents rather than a preventative measure."
