Shopping No Longer As Easy as 123

Local MP, Norman Baker is asking East Sussex County Council to rethink changes to bus route 123 which mean that it no longer serves the Tesco supermarket in Lewes.

Bus route 123, which runs between Lewes and Peacehaven taking in Iford, Rodmell, Southease, Piddinghoe and Newhaven has previously always stopped at Tesco in Lewes, providing an invaluable service for shoppers living along the bus route, particularly the elderly and infirm.

Mr Baker has asked the Council to justify this change and demanded that they seriously consider reversing their decision.

Speaking about the situation, Norman says:

"I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are very concerned about the cut to this service, as it will leave them unable to shop at their chosen supermarket.

Serving Tesco's does not constitute much of a diversion for the 123, so I am asking the County to reinstate the link. This change to the bus route is forcing those wishing to use Tesco to carry heavy shopping all the way to Lewes bus station.

"To make matters worse, just as the service has been cut, passengers are being hit again by a hike in fares. This is unacceptable and unfair and I have written to the Council to ask them to reconsider their decision."
