Lights, Telephone, Action!

Residents in Dover Road, Polegate, who have been entirely without street lights since Christmas Eve, should shortly be bathed in neon again.

The good news came after local MP Norman Baker took up the case on behalf of local residents who had contacted him. Dover Road has many elderly people living along it, and with the short winter days, the lack of street lighting has created a real hazard.

Norman tracked down the relevant section at EDF Energy and put the case for urgent action. The position, as at Monday afternoon, was that the fault has now been identified and fixed - it was a damaged cable - and all that awaits now is reinstatement before the lights are turned on again. The contractors, McNicholas, have been asked to do this quickly.

Norman said:

"While Christmas lights lit many of our streets, they disappeared entirely from Dover Road. It is quite unacceptable for a whole street to be in darkness for almost two weeks. I am glad that EDF have taken action to rectify matters and have told the company I expect the lights to be back on within 48 hours."
