Norman Baker MP has moved to support demands made by Firle Parish Council calling for traffic measures to be implemented urgently to ensure the safety of Firle school children. The issue is now even more pressing since a ‘Woodland Classroom’ has been opened across the road from the school.
The area between Crossways and the Ram Inn, particularly the entrance to Firle primary school is the section of road being targeted for improvements. An absence of signposts, a number of parking obstructions and lack of speed restrictions have led to the strong calls now being made by the Parish Council.
Commenting on this Norman Baker says;
“The road outside the school is at a blind junction, is narrow, and has a 60mph speed limit. Urgent steps should be taken by the County Council to reduce the speed limit to 30mph, and introduce clearer signs to warn motorists of the possible danger. Without such action, drivers will remain oblivious to the possibility of children crossing, and unaware of the potential hazards."
