Local MP Voices Concern Over Alfriston Planning Proposal

Alfriston's MP Norman Baker has written to Wealden District Council following a number of representations from local constituents who are objecting to the current planning application concerning the Wingrove Inn.

The application, which proposes to convert the Inn into residential accommodation, has been opposed by local residents on numerous grounds, including the impact that new build would have on the conservation green, the loss of views that would result from this development and the principle of a Change of Use.

Norman Baker said:

"I have received a number of letters from local residents about this planning application and I fully understand and sympathise with the concerns that they express. The Wingrove Inn is an impressive building in a traditional Sussex village that has just been named 'East Sussex Village of the Year', so it is unsurprising that residents feel strongly about the building's future

"I have been in touch with the Planning Department at Wealden District Council to draw their attention to what I regard as being the most salient points in the issue. Because it is an important and sensitive application, I have also requested that it is a committee and not individual officers that decide the fate of the Wingrove Inn ".
