Local MP, Norman Baker, has today re-launched 'Buswatch', a campaign in which Mr Baker encourages his constituents to write to him to let him know of their less-than-satisfactory experiences with local bus services.
The local MP first established Buswatch in 2000 in response to a startling number of complaints from local public transport users about the poor services provided by Stagecoach, particularly in Seaford. Marked improvements in services followed this initiative.
This re-launch of Buswatch follows a similar upsurge in the number of constituents writing to the MP to express their frustration and anger at local bus services. It also coincides with the release of new figures by the Department for Transport that reveal widespread dissatisfaction with bus services all across the country.
Norman Baker said:
"I am sadly receiving far too many stories of cancelled buses, poor service and regular changes to timetables, all of which actively discourage bus use by any who have an alternative.
"It is pointless for the Government to expect more people to travel by bus in East Sussex when the quality of service on our buses is generally showing no signs of improvement. In some cases it even seems to be getting worse.
"The satisfaction of bus users needs be a priority as we will only get an uptake in bus usage whenwe have a safe, reliable and affordable system. What is more, for many people, travelling by bus is not so much a principled choice as the only way they have of getting from A to B. To leave this group of people, often the elderly and vulnerable, standing out in the cold at bus stops is just unacceptable.
"I am therefore calling on my constituents to let me know of their experiences with local bus services in order that I can take the matter up on their behalf and fight for the better quality of service that they deserve."
