Lewes MP Norman Baker has today welcomed the proposals set out by the Boundary Commission for county council electoral divisions locally.
Norman says:
"Once again, as with the recent parliamentary boundary review, the Commssion has done a good job, balancing the requirement for numerical equality with community affiliation. Their proposals for divisions within Lewes District in particular are far superior to those put forward by the County Council. They, I am afraid, looked like a clear attempt to gerrymander the boundaries to try to help the Conservatives. I am pleased that this nonsense has been rejected by the Commission.
"It is regrettable that, under the Commission's proposals, Seaford West will be tied in with part of Newhaven and the Ouse Valley, but the disparity in numbers made some sort of split of Seaford inevitable, and this is probably the least disruptive that could be achieved."
