Baker Wins Bus Battle

Lewes MP, Norman Baker, has today learned that his campaign to reinstate the Tesco supermarket stop to the 123 bus route has been successful.

This follows Norman's call to East Sussex County Council in December of last year to rethink changes to service 123 that cut the Lewes Tesco stop from the bus route.

Bus route 123, which runs between Lewes and Peacehaven taking in Iford, Rodmell, Southease, Piddinghoe and Newhaven provides an invaluable service for shoppers living along the bus route, particularly the elderly.

Speaking about the situation, Norman says:

"I am delighted to hear that the changes to the route of this service have been reversed. The decision to cut out the Tesco's stop left many of constituents either unable to shop at their chosen supermarket or forced to carry heavy shopping all the way to Lewes bus station.

"Serving Tesco does not constitute much of a diversion for the 123, but it does make a huge difference for people who depend on public transport to do their shopping."
