Lewes MP Norman Baker says Southerham Grey Pit just outside Lewes is a forgotten asset that could be brought into use to benefit the town.
Speaking to a Lib Dem meeting in Lewes, he called for the site to be used for:
The MP also pointed out that the Lewes-Seaford railway line passed the site and there was an existing siding which could in theory be used to provide a rail halt.
Norman told the meeting: "We need to think outside the box. Southerham Grey Pit has simply been a site for burnt-out cars. It could be used for a state of the art industrial development, generating local employment and providing a showcase for good environmental development. That would also unlock a park and ride site which would both provide a base for those who have to drive to Lewes, whilst simultaneously taking pressure off the town's narrow streets.
