Let There Be Light!

Lewes MP, Norman Baker, has received information from EDF Energy announcing their decision to enter into a Service Level Agreement with East Sussex County Council.

This decision comes on the back of the local MPs street light campaign, which was prompted by a barrage of complaints from residents all over the constituency about faulty street lighting. Norman's campaign called on EDF Energy to enter into a Service Level Agreement that would ensure a higher standard of service for local people by specifying exact deadlines for the repair of faults with mains electricity. Norman also took up the issue with the Department of Transport who acknowledged a general nationwide problem of poor service provision by local electricity providers.

EDF Energy have now decided that, although they already work to a Public Charter that outlines their aim to repair network faults affecting more than ten street lights within three working days and faults affecting fewer lights within ten working days, they will shortly agree and define a Service Level agreement with the Council.

Commenting on this Norman says:

"I am pleased that EDF are now agreeing to enter into a Service Level Agreement with East Sussex County Council which will ensure the council's greater authority to demand speedy repairs to faulty street lights. The delays that my constituents have been experiencing over the winter months have been unacceptable. Dark streets are not only inconvenient, but they can be frightening and unsafe.

"Until this agreement comes into force, however, I will continue to monitor the situation and would like to hear from any constituents who know of street lighting faults that have not been attended to a fortnight after their having been reported."
