Local MP Presses Government For More Action On Energy Efficiency

Lewes MP and Lib Dem Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker MP has criticised the Government for failing to take more substantive action in order to achieve the dramatic reductions needed in the UK's levels of energy consumption.

Speaking in a debate in the House of Commons, Norman told fellow MPs that improving energy efficiency would help those in low incomes meet their fuel bills, help tackle climate change, and boost Britain's energy efficiency industry.

After the debate Norman commented:

"The need to improve energy efficiency is of paramount concern to this country - both in terms of our future security and also in terms of environmental sustainability. However whilst the Government claims to recognise this and has committed itself to these energy consumption reduction targets we are yet to see the mechanisms which will actually allow them to meet them."
