MP Congratulates Local Schools On Artsmark Success

Lewes MP Norman Baker has today written to congratulate three local schools that are among a select number in the country to receive an Artsmark Award.

Artsmark is a national award scheme, organised by the Arts Council for England that recognises and rewards schools for their commitment to the arts. In order to receive the award, schools are put through a full audit of their arts provision. Only those schools that offer a broad range of arts opportunities for students, both in an outside of school hours, that have partnerships with artists and arts organisations and that provide professional development opportunities for teachers receive an Award. There are three levels of award - gold, silver and ordinary - depending on the level of the school's arts provision.

The three schools to receive an Artsmark Award within Norman's constituency are Grays School, Newhaven (Gold), St Pancras Catholic Primary School, Lewes (Gold) and Hamsey Community Primary School, Cooksbridge (Silver)

Commenting on this Norman says:

"I am delighted that three local schools have received the recognition that they so richly deserve for the arts opportunities that they make available to pupils and have been singled out as part of only 1113 schools nationwide that are receiving an Artsmark Award.

"Every young person should be able to participate in and experience the arts and I am very pleased that so many local schools, not only those awarded in this fourth round of awards, are dedicated to providing such an impressive range of arts activities."
