MP Welcomes Post Office Steps To Re-Open Cliffe Branch

Lewes MP, Norman Baker has today revealed the steps that Post Office Ltd is taking to ensure the re-opening of a Post Office in the Cliffe area of Lewes.

This follows considerable contact between the local MP and the Acting Head of Area for Post Office Ltd, Paul Simmonds. In a recent meeting, Mr Baker made clear his disquiet about the length of time that Post Office Ltd are taking to find premises for a new branch, especially given the inordinately long queues facing customers at the main branch on the High Street.

So far, Post Office Ltd' has contacted one potentially suitable retail outlet in the Cliffe and has been in touch with other local people to try to find a suitable subpostmaster. The Post Office is now advertising the position on their website and has put up posters around the town to encourage potential subpostmasters to come forward.

If anyone is interested in the Cliffe vacancy for a subpostmaster, they should contact the Agency Recruitment Department of Post Office Ltd on 0845 6016260.

Commenting on this Norman says:

"I am pleased that the Post Office finally seem to be making a real effort to locate both a new subpost master and new premises for a Post Office in the Cliffe.

"The queues at the main Post Office in the High Street are still unacceptably long and the office is in a far from ideal location for many elderly and disabled people. There is an unquestionable need for a second post office in the town centre.

"If anyone is interested in becoming a subpostmaster in the Cliffe, please get in touch with my office in Lewes and we will be happy to pass on your details to the Post Office."
