Local MP Wins Anti-Skid Surface For C7 At Southease

Lewes MP, Norman Baker, has today received news that he is winning the battle to improve safety measures on the C7. East Sussex County Council plans to lay down an anti-skid surface on the road at Southease today, Wednesday.

The good news follows a telephone call from the local MP who, at the request of concerned constituents, visited the site on Saturday. Local people have been horrified by the number and frequency of accidents along the stretch of road at Southease, where nine drivers have lost control in the short period since the road was resurfaced. Only last week there was yet another incident on the site, which prompted Mr Baker to visit the accident hotspot for himself.

In April of this year Norman persuaded East Sussex County Council to conduct a safety audit of the road after the council admitted that the road gives 'some cause for concern.

Commenting on this Norman says:

"The stretch of road in question looks safe enough, but there is clearly a problem. It may be that the recent resurfacing has altered the camber marginally, or simply that is has encouraged drivers to go faster and they have lost control on the bends. Either way, I am impressed that the County Council's Highways Department at Ringmer has responded so quickly and responsibly to the situation."

Norman Baker has over the years persuaded the council to introduce a number of safety measures to the road, including a 30mph limit at Rodmell, no overtaking sections and white "pull-in" arrows on the road.
