Local MP Wins Back Postbox For Fitzjohns Road
Lewes MP, Norman Baker, has today welcomed the Royal Mail's promise to reinstate the post box on Fitzjohns Road.
The box, which used to be attached a telegraph pole, was removed without warning a few weeks ago due to health and safety regulations, much to the concern and annoyance of local residents who were forced to walk some considerable distance to post their letters.
In response to Mr Baker's campaign on behalf of the people living in Fitzjohns Road, Royal Mail promised to replace the box with another, only 5 yards from its original location.
Commenting on this Norman says:
"I am very pleased that Royal Mail have agreed to replace the box as close as possible to where it used to be located. Many of my constituents were very concerned about its sudden removal, which happened without any advance warning.
"Although it might seem to some to be simply a matter of convenience, some elderly local residents found it very difficult to get to the other nearest post boxes on Leicester Road and De Warrenne Road, both of which involve climbing a steep hill. I am therefore very happy to be able to announce the box's imminent return to Fitzjohns Road."
