Lewes MP, Norman Baker, will tomorrow take part in the Firle Nature Reserve Opening Day. The day has been organised by Firle Primary School to show Firle residents and school parents the work that has been done to turn an area of woodland into a nature reserve and open-air classroom for the children at Firle School.
The piece of land opposite the school, which is owned by Firle Estate, has been the focus for a project to create a safe area that can be used as 'outdoor classroom' for the purposes of teaching all areas of the curriculum. The project has also been of interest to students at Plumpton Agricultural College, who have helped set-up the nature reserve as part of their course.
Visitors tomorrow afternoon will be able to enjoy a variety of work on display around the school, including art pieces, stories and science work based around visits to the nature reserve.
Commenting on this Norman says:
"I am delighted to have been invited to come along to the opening of the new Nature Reserve project and to meet both those who designed and set-up the Reserve and those children that will be benefiting from it.
"Experiencing things first-hand is one of the best ways to learn so I am really pleased that this Nature Reserve will give pupils at Firle Primary School the opportunity to do exactly that. I am sure it will be much used by the school and very much enjoyed by the children."
