Local MP Wins Promises From EDF For Laughton Residents

Lewes MP, Norman Baker has received an apology from EDF for the large number of power cuts experienced by Laughton residents recently and a promise of compensation for all the customers affected.

Following a recent spate of faults in the area, including one that left some residents without power overnight, the electricity company has offered £50 to each affected household and an acknowledgement that their record of reliability over recent months has been unacceptable.

As a result of the number of recent problems with the network reported by Mr Baker and local residents, EDF have now promised to undertake a full network survey of the area to identify any required upgrades. The company also agreed to install additional equipment at the Primary substation in Ripe, which should reduce the length of time that customers are without electricity in the event of future power cuts.

Commenting on this Norman says:

"I am pleased that EDF have acknowledged their poor reliability record in this part of my constituency in recent months and have both apologised to residents and offered a small amount of compensation as a goodwill gesture.

"Some of the residents in Laughton have been very inconvenienced by the recent cuts, particularly those who stay in during the day or work from home. With the coldest months of the year approaching I am pleased that EDF are taking this matter seriously and taking steps to minimise both the chances of this happening again and the likely length of any power cut in the future."
