'Compensation Claims For Polegate Bypass Must Be Treated Fairly' - Norman Baker

Norman Baker MP has today called for the case for awarding compensation to residents affected by the Polegate bypass to be re-opened. The town's MP has written to the Highways Agency asking them to reconsider claims made by residents of the south side of Dittons Road, Polegate.

The new claims come after the recent opening of Jubilee Way, running close to the south side of Dittons Road, which has brought increased levels of noise and air pollution to the nearby residents. Previously residents on the north side of the road have received compensation.

Commenting on this Norman says; "I think that residents who live on the south side of Dittons Road have a case worthy of consideration, and I have written to the Highways Agency asking them to review their decision in regard to compensation payments. With Jubilee Way now complete it seems appropriate that a re-examination of the effects of an increase in traffic noise as well as pollution be considered, in assessing the claims of the nearby residents."

Polegate's county councillor Roy Martin adds, "I agree that the Highways Agency ought to re-examine this matter. People on the south side of Dittons Road clearly feel aggrieved."
