Local MP's Disappointment at Closure of Newhaven's Halifax Branch

Local MP Norman Baker has written to the Hailfax to express his concern at the decision by the Halifax to close their Newhaven branch on the 22 April 2005. This means the nearest branches for Newhaven customers will now be in either Seaford or Peacehaven. Letters have been sent out to Halifax customers in Newhaven informing them that their accounts will be moving to the Seaford Halifax branch.

"This is a disappointing decision on the part of the Halifax and will leave Newhaven with only a few financial services.

"I am especially concerned about the pensioners who opened an account with the Halifax in order to receive their pensions. In the future the extra miles that will be involved in reaching their nearest branch will make it much more difficult to collect their pensions every week. We already have enough problems with post offices closing, without the Halifax following suit."
