Norman Baker MP has today received notification from the East Sussex County Council that they have agreed to consider a possible lorry ban on the B2247 (the old A27) through Polegate. The action comes after pressure applied by the Polegate MP, who took up the case after a number of frustrated constituents had contacted him.
The number of lorries and other HGVs using the old A27 has been rising sharply in recent months and has been causing considerable concern amongst local residents. In a written letter to the County Council, the local MP called for a weight ban to be introduced on the old A27 with the aim of getting the heavy traffic off the quieter road through the centre of Polegate and back onto the Bypass. The County Council is now evaluating a possible lorry ban between the A22 Cophall Roundabout and the west side access into the Chaucer Industrial Estate.
Norman Says:
"I am encouraged by the County Council's decision to undertake this work. It will come as welcome news to the many residents of Polegate who have contacted me to express their annoyance and frustration with the many lorries now hurtling along the old A27.
"Let's hope the result is that heavy vehicles are forced back onto the bypass where they belong and permanently off the old A27 where they are quite simply a nuisance."
