Lewes MP on Death of Lord Callaghan

Commenting on the death of the former Prime Minister and Ringmer resident Jim Callaghan, local MP Norman Baker said:

"I was very sad to learn of Jim Callaghan's death. On every occasion I met him, he was unfailingly courteous and friendly. I remember being present when he opened the NFU offices in Lewes, when he effortlessly held the room, displaying both charisma and stature. I last met him last year at Lewes Victoria Hospital, when he talked keenly to me about the current political situation.

"Unlike some other former Prime Ministers, his reputation only grew over the years, and I believe he was respected across all parties, and all will share my sadness at his death. My condolences go to his family."
