Lewes MP and Lib Dem Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker has called for the Government to reverse their decision to cut grants for new solar power schemes.
The cuts end a grant allocation scheme for solar power, which harnesses sunlight to generate electricity, officially planned to run until 2012.
Commenting on this, Norman said:
"Climate change is the biggest threat facing the future well-being of our planet. In view of this it is essential that we find quick and effective methods of cutting emissions levels of carbon dioxide.
"This complete U-turn in Government policy will not only slow down the UK’s progress towards a low-carbon economy but will seriously undermine the future of the important solar power industry.
"This is yet another Government failure in a long list of broken promises on renewable energy. Pulling out of an investment scheme that was promised until 2012 is a disgrace."
