“We'll scrap the Tories’ Incinerator,” pledge Lib Dems

The Lib Dems will scrap the incinerator planned for Newhaven if they take control of the County Council on May 5th. The firm promise was announced jointly today by Norman Baker, Lib Dem county group leader David Rogers, and Lib Dem County lead spokesman, Jon Freeman, and has been endorsed by all local Lib Dem candidates.

Norman explains: "There is overwhelming opposition locally to the idea of an incinerator at Newhaven. Yet the Conservative county council has made it clear it intends to sweep aside all local protests and build an incinerator in the town after the local elections. They must be stopped, and that can only be done by electing a Lib Dem-run county council. Those opposed to the incinerator need to vote Lib Dem on May 5th if the Tory incinerator is to be prevented."

David Rogers says: "The choice is clear. Vote Tory and get an incinerator. Vote Lib Dem and we'll cancel it. A vote for anyone else is an own goal - it just reduces the Lib Dem vote and so helps the Tories."

Jon Freeman adds: "My primary interest lies with the people of Seaford, as it has always done. The threat to health, traffic congestion and house prices is real. As we have seen elsewhere the incinerator can have dire consequences. Back us and give people and recycling the chance to work - before it is too late and the incinerator burns 24/7 for 25 years."

Pat Ost agrees: "This incinerator is a threat to people in Newhaven, Seaford and beyond. It must not be allowed to happen. Tories in power in the County Council never vote against it. Only a Lib Dem run council will scrap the incinerator."

Ralph Taylor also comments, “Seaford people do not want an incinerator built. Whether it is at Newhaven, Beddingham or anywhere else, if elected, I will vote against it.”
