Norman is re-elected by fellow MPs to set green agenda in Parliament

Lewes MP and Lib Dem Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker has today been unanimously re-elected as Chair of the All-Party Environment Group. The group, composed of MPs and Peers with an expressed interest in environmental issues, met today in the House of Commons for its first AGM since the general election. Norman was returned unopposed, having previously held the post since 2003.

Speaking after the AGM, Norman said:

“I am delighted to be re-elected as Chair of this important all-party group. Such groups function as a key component of the parliamentary process by proving an additional means for concerned individuals and groups to raise awareness of issues and for MPs to scrutinise legislation and government progress on them.

“The All-Party Environment Group has investigated a number of environmental issues of crucial importance over the years and has worked very closely with both business and the public. It has proved a success story with membership increasing significantly and its finances in the healthiest state ever.”

“I look forward to taking this group’s work forward during the course of the next year and working to raise awareness of environmental issues in order to push them further up the parliamentary agenda.”
