Local MP shocked at butchering of Seaford Trees by ‘tree surgeons’

Trees in Grove Road Seaford

Local MP Norman Baker has expressed his shock at the decimation of five of the trees along Grove Road in Seaford at the hands of ‘tree surgeons’ carrying out work on behalf of East Sussex County Council.

According to the Council the order for the work was originally raised in December 2004 however the work was not carried out until this summer, in the height of the growing season when the trees were heavy handedly ‘pruned’ by the surgeons.

Norman has written to the Bob Wilkins, the director of Transport and Environment at East Sussex County Council to make clear his strong concern about the way the trees have been “attacked”. He has also fired off a number of questions, for example whether there was a specified time when the work was to be carried out, whether any checks on the progress of the work were performed and whether the tree surgeons were chosen from an approved County Council list in respect to their work and their financial probity.

Commenting on this Norman said:

“ I am shocked that such vandalism could be carried out by any self-respecting tree surgeon. Thankfully a local resident had the presence of mind to ask them to stop the work otherwise the entire street would have been affected in this way. As it is these five trees will take many years to recover.

“I have written to the County Council to ask for a explanation as to why the work the work was carried out when it was and as to whether these so called ‘tree surgeons’ has done any work for the Council before hand”
