MP launches competition to find five best food pubs in area

Norman Baker, MP for Lewes, has launched a competition to find five pubs in his constituency, selling the best food as part of the British Beer & Pub Association and All-Party Parliamentary Group’s "Beautiful Beer" Campaign. The winning pubs will be awarded a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ by the MP.

To be nominated for an award, the pub in question must serve an excellent range and quality of beer, have a friendly atmosphere, and most important, serve top quality food. And of course they must be located within the boundaries of Norman’s constituency.

If you think your local watering hole deserves a nomination please send a brief (no more than 100 words) letter stating why you think that pub should receive a certificate of excellence to Norman’s Constituency Office at 204 High Street Lewes BN7 2NS, by the 31st January 2006.

Commenting on the competition Norman said:

"There are many excellent pubs in the Lewes constituency and I hope this will be another good way to recognise pubs that actually provide a good service to their customers, and particularly to encourage those who serve good food within a family-friendly environment.

"With the new Licensing Act, all pubs are being portrayed as dens of 24 hour drinking and anti-social behaviour. This initiative will show that there are many very good pubs out there which are highly valued within the community."
