Seaford MP Norman Baker today welcomed clarification by the Planning Inspectorate of the ambiguous planning consent granted by the Appeal Inspector for 49 houses and flats on land to the east of Sandringham Close, Seaford.
The letter from the Inspectorate, sent in response to the MP’s query, states: ‘When formally granting permission… the Inspector failed to change the description of the development to reflect that only houses were proposed. I do apologise if this slip has caused confusion but as the permission incorporates the submitted plans, both the developer and the local planning authority know precisely what type of development may take place. Nevertheless we are currently intending, if the parties agree, to re-issue the decision to reflect what the Inspector says in paragraph 1 of the decision.’
Norman said: "Local residents will be glad to receive this clarification of the Inspector’s decision which at least will mean, providing it is accepted by the developers, that Bloor Homes will not try to change the terms of the planning consent by coming back to the District Council with revised plans incorporating flats. I am concerned, however, that this error should have been made in the first place. It hardly inspires confidence in the planning system."
