A recent application by stallholders for the renewal of temporary planning consent for Sunday morning car boot sales at the Eastgate Centre car park has received the support of Lewes MP Norman Baker. The car boot sale, held on Sunday mornings, is a popular feature of Lewes life.
Norman said: "The regular Sunday morning car boot sale is popular in the town and I am calling on the District Council to renew planning permission for the weekly event. I have heard that Waitrose may be objecting to the renewal, which is regrettable, if true. The stallholders have offered to move their stalls if access to the car park is needed by Waitrose. I see no reason why the permission should not be renewed".
The regular Sunday event was almost lost for good a couple of years ago until the MP intervened to broker an agreement to allow its continuation.
