Lewes MP, Norman Baker, has called for Harvey’s Beer to be added to the selection of beers available at House of Commons bars.
This follows an Early Day Motion requesting the review of a decision to remove traditionally brewed, cask-conditioned English ales from the Strangers’ Bar and replace them with San Miguel lager.
Norman has amended this Early Day Motion to specifically request the sale of Harvey’s Beer in the Strangers’ Bar and to voice his support for the continued availability of traditional ales at the House of Commons.
Speaking, Norman commented:
"I am surprised and disappointed to learn that real ales have been removed from in the Strangers’ Bar. We should actually go in the opposite direction and support our local breweries. That’s why I have asked for Harvey’s to be made available so all MPs can experience the delights currently only available to a handful of us.
"As I am fortunate enough to live in a town with a thriving local brewery and am also a member of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group I am only too aware of the importance of continuing to support smaller breweries that honour traditional methods of brewing."
