Congratulations on new grant to South Downs Council for Voluntary Service - Baker

Norman Baker has offered his congratulations to the South Downs Council for Voluntary Service (SDCVS) who have been awarded a three year grant of £190,238 by the Big Lottery Fund to fund a full-time developing communities coordinator and a part time training and information officer as well as covering general running costs, rent for premises and training and organisation costs.

The SCDVS was set up in 1990 and aims to promote and support voluntary action in the Lewes area. It works with children, disabled people, older people and those from disadvantaged areas of the Lewes District to improve the capacity and quality of groups within their communities, helping them become more involved with the development of local initiatives and delivery of local sustainable development and local policy.

Commenting on this Norman said:

"I am delighted for the SDCVS has been awarded this grant. Their work over the years has been very valuable to the communities in the Lewes area and I hope that this award will mean they will be able to continue this work for some years to come."
