Local MP welcomes Southern's decision to lay on more trains

Local Lib Dem MP, Norman Baker, has today welcomed Southern's decision to increase the number of trains running between London and his constituency during the evening.

Mr Baker, who is keen to encourage people to use the railway, has often raised the need for a more frequent evening service in his regular meetings with Southern. The rail company has now scheduled two trains per hour during late evenings in the summer months thus extending the half hourly service for residents of Lewes and Polegate until 21:17. Southern have also provided two new late evening trains between Seaford and Brighton.

This new summer timetable comes into effect on June 11th 2006.

Commenting on the decision local MP Norman Baker said:

"I am delighted that Southern have decided to extend the half hourly service and add extra trains from London in the evening during the summer months. It is important that public transport is convenient to use and that trains are frequent enough to encourage people to leave the car at home.

"I always travel up to London on the train and these extra services will certainly make a real difference to me when I come home from work in the evening. I am glad that Southern have been persuaded to adopt these new services and I am sure that they will be very well used by my constituents."
