Lewes District Council will take urgent action to clean up the litter and improve the appearance in the area at the top of Valley Road and around the outside of Meeching Primary School, Newhaven, after it was brought to their attention by Newhaven’s MP Norman Baker.
In a letter to Norman Baker, the District Council has said it will take immediate action including a litter pick, contacting the County Council to cut back the overgrown brambles, and contacting both the Salvation Army who run the Foyer Project directly opposite the school and the Head of Meeching School to encourage them to keep the areas around their premises clean and discourage the children from dropping litter.
Commenting on the matter Norman said:
"I am pleased that Lewes District Council are acting so promptly to deal with the quite awful amount of litter that has accumulated at the top of Valley Road. I have had a number of constituents who have complained about the state of the road and I also noted the littering when I visited Meeching School in the middle of March."
"I do have confidence that now the Council is aware of the problem in this area it will take action to keep the area cleaner in the future."
