MP welcomes Seaford railway track spruce up

Following a letter from Norman Baker MP to the Chief Executive of Network Rail concerning the amount of rubbish along the track around Seaford station and at Lambe’s bridge, Norman has welcomed the clearance of some of the rubbish in question.

Norman, who regularly travels to Seaford by train, had noticed the state of the track on his visits and had received a number of complaints from residents regarding the amount of litter around the main station and at Lambe’s bridge, a Network Rail structure.

Last year Norman persuaded Managing Director of Southern Railway, the local train operator, to take some action to tidy up the track area within the station, which was duly done.

Commenting on this Norman said:

"I nearly always take the train when I am travelling to Seaford and noticed that the state of the track has become visibly far worse over recent months. I remember that Network Rail were able to clean the area some eighteen months ago and I was keen that they should do so again. I am very encouraged some action has already been taken along the track beside the station, though some work still remains outstanding.

"In particular, the problem at Lambe’s Bridge may be harder to solve, as I understand it may involve shutting off the power on the train track. I hope however Network Rail will be able to find a solution. I also hope they will put in place a proper cleaning schedule that does not rely on them having to be prodded sporadically by me or the local council."
