Norman Baker wins fare reduction for Seaford - Bishopstone travellers

Local Lib Dem MP, Norman Baker, has persuaded Southern rail to reduce fares on rail links within his Lewes constituency. After learning of the concerns of local residents travelling regularly between Seaford and Bishopstone, following an earlier fare hike, Mr Baker raised the matter personally with the new managing director of Southern, Chris Burchell.

Now, following the meeting, Southern has told Norman that they will be reducing the fares between Bishopstone and Seaford. The fare will be reduced from £2.00 single and £2.10 return to £1.50 and £1.60 respectively. The fares will be altered in September.

Mr Baker had been particularly keen to see this reduction enforced, as many of the regular users of this link are pensioners, often using rail as their main, if not only means of transport.

Commenting on this Mr Baker said:

"I am delighted to see that Southern has seen sense over this matter. This rail link is an important one within the constituency, and one that serves a great number of pensioners who simply cannot afford to be paying extortionate prices."
