Parker Pen: Newhaven MP regrets job losses but welcomes commitment to future manufacturing
Reacting to the news that 46 distribution jobs are to be lost at the Parker Pen plant at Newhaven, local MP Norman Baker said:
"It is obviously unwelcome that 46 jobs are to be lost at Parker Pen, not least for those affected. I have, however, talked personally to senior management in Newhaven, and am assured that the future of the plant is not in doubt. Indeed, I understand that the company has recently invested $1½ m in new manufacturing capacity on site, which is clearly a vote of confidence in the workforce at Newhaven from Parker Pen's American owners."
Norman Baker will be visiting the plant in the near future to discuss matters in more detail and see the investment which has taken place.
