Norman co-sponsored an Early Day Motion calling for new legislation aimed at tackling the problem of climate change. The Government has responded to this by proposing a Climate Change Bill in its programme of legislation for 2007.
Speaking on the topic of climate change, Norman said, "I have championed the need to tackle climate change for almost twenty years, long before it was fashionable, and have introduced a number of debates in the House of Commons on the issue."
"I am looking forward to the passage of this Bill through Parliament as a necessary first step, though I am disappointed that the government has set its face against annual targets. I fear that they still want to get credit for the rhetoric without delivering the goods. Ultimately we need action on climate change, not more Government spin."
