Local MP to meet minister in order to keep up pressure over Lewes flood defences

Local MP Norman Baker will next week lead a delegation from Lewes to keep up the pressure on the government in order to get a fair deal for Lewes on funding for flood defences in and around the town.

Speaking about the issue Norman sai, "The people of Lewes have not forgotten the disastrous floods of 2000, which brought so much damage and destruction to our town.

"It worries me that despite the events of six years ago, the government has still not committed itself to the necessary investment required to prevent a similar incident causing further damage again in the future. Failing to learn the lessons from the last flood is a mistake that Lewes can ill afford."

The delegation, led by Norman, includes members from Lewes Flood Action and the Mayor, Merlin Milner. They will meet Environment Minister, Ian Pearson at the DEFRA Headquarters in London.
