Ditchling gives big thumbs-down to Princess Royal plan
A significant 91% of people in Ditchling are opposed to any downgrade of the Princess Royal hospital. Furthermore, 85% of village residents believe that the huge sums of money being poured into the NHS are being spent in the wrong way, with only 2% saying funds are being spent correctly.
The figures come from a detailed questionnaire carried out by Norman Baker and the Lib Dems across Ditchling. A total of 650 questionnaires were delivered by Lib Dems of which 133 were returned, producing a good response rate of 20%.
The questionnaire also found:
- A significant 81% of people agree that Tony Blair, backed by the Conservatives, was wrong to lead us into an illegal war in Iraq. Only 14% believe we were right to go to war in Iraq and 5% do not know.
- 63% of people would rate Tony Blair’s management of British foreign policy since 1997 as poor, 23% say it has been average, but only 6% of people believe it has been good.
- 71% agree with Norman Baker in seeing Guantanamo Bay as a breach of basic human rights, and that the camp should be shut down.
- A moderately even view is apparent of whether Britain’s membership in the EU is positive for this country. 46% of people say it is and 44% say it is not.
- 68% of people oppose the notion of a new generation of nuclear power plants built across Britain, instead backing the Lib Dems approach of investment in energy efficiency, renewable energy and cleaned-up fossil fuels.
- A massive 85% of people support the proposal that the elderly should receive free personal care at home, as they do in Scotland.
- 53% agree that the plan put forward by the Conservative County Council to build a huge waste incinerator is not the answer to the waste problem in East Sussex.
