Local MP Norman Baker has won a new sign to improve safety at the junction of Beggars Wood Road (B2183) and the A272 in North Chailey. This follows on from a letter that he wrote to East Sussex County Council on behalf of a local resident who was concerned about the safety of the junction, which has had a high accident rate.
Although the council has in recent years placed signs encouraging drivers to take an alternative route, the council has not, until recently, promised to change the signage at the junction in order to adequately reflect its layout. This came about in part as a result of a recent accident at the junction.
East Sussex County Council has also said that it will be reviewing the speed limits on the A272 with Sussex Police, and will consider lowering them if necessary.
Speaking on the issue, Norman Baker said "I am glad to see that the County Council is taking road safety in the north of my constituency seriously and hope that the placing of a new, more accurate road sign at this junction will help reduce the accident rate here. I also support the review of speed limits along the A272."
