Local MP Norman Baker has welcomed the news that Kilnwood Lane in South Chailey is to be resurfaced. This comes after years of lobbying by local residents concerned about the dangerously pot-holed private road.
Unfortunately, Conservative controlled East Sussex County Council, the local highway authority, has consistently refused to adopt the road, but now Lib Dem run Lewes District Council has agreed to provide the necessary funding for the resurfacing to go ahead.
Speaking on the decision, Norman said "I am glad to hear that Lewes District Council is prepared to help deal with this problem. Kilnwood Lane is probably in a worse condition than any other residential road in my constituency and is a positive hazard to walkers and drivers alike.
"I look forward to the District Council selecting a contractor shortly to undertake the resurfacing work so that the residents of Kilnwood Lane can have a smooth road as soon as possible."
