Local MP wins promise of action over unlit path

MP for Polegate, Norman Baker has won a promise from a developer to provide lighting for a footpath that was left in darkness as a result of their activity.

The footpath in question runs along the edge of the Polegate Shopping Centre car park, and has been cast in darkness at night as a result of the erection of a heavy wooden fence by Waterhouse Estates Ltd, who were developing some surplus land on the edge of the car park. The fence has cut off the existing light from the car park.

Norman Baker wrote to the developer about the lighting situation on the behalf of a concerned constituent, and they have now promised that they will install lighting and address the issue "…as soon as it is possible to do so".

Speaking on his victory, Norman Baker said "I am glad to see that the needs of Polegate residents are being taken seriously by Waterhouse Estates Ltd, and I look forward to the installation of the new lighting for the pathway."
