Local MP Norman Baker has today expressed his encouragement at the news today that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is to re-open the inquiry into the boundaries for the South Downs National Park.
This comes after a public outcry against the original decision to take into account only representations relating to areas of land that had been included in the proposed park boundaries, rather than those that had been excluded when the boundaries were redrawn.
The result of this decision was that the controversial deletion of Lewes as well as a key parcel of land south of Chyngton Way in Seaford from the proposed park boundaries were both unable to be objected to.
Speaking on the issue, Norman said: "We must make sure that the Inspector takes the opportunity to look at all of the representations that have been sent to him to date relating to the areas of land that have been deleted from the proposed park boundary.
"I believe that the sheer volume of complaints about the deletions from the park illustrate the strength of local opinion on this issue, and I trust the re-opened inquiry will now be able to address these concerns fully."
