Hope not yet extinguished for Seaford Head sixth form: MP calls for more enrolments

Efforts to prevent the closure of Seaford Head’s 6th form were stepped up this week when local MP Norman Baker met with the school’s Head and Chair of Governors – and it became clear that all is not yet lost.

Norman Baker says: "This was a useful meeting and I established that the governors would be prepared to think again about the withdrawal of the 6th form if the financial obstacles could be overcome. In essence, the school needs more applications for admission to the 6th form, so I am encouraging those in Seaford, and indeed elsewhere nearby such as in Newhaven, who will be entering the 6th form to apply for a place at Seaford Head next year."

The MP adds: "I do not underestimate the financial challenges the school faces, but I have asked them to engage actively with the community and leave no stone unturned to try to find a way to keep the 6th form. What is proposed may technically only be a suspension, but the reality is that if it disappears, it will not come back. That would be a tragedy for a town the size of Seaford."
